And it's up to freelancers to keep their own marketing department going during these times so these smaller companies know they have this option.

So how do we do that? Hire an outside agency? Write articles for the local business journal?

I'm not sure, I was hoping that would spark another blog article from you ;)

But I would think that attending local business gatherings, posting flyers in local businesses, mentioning to a business owner that you tried looking him up on the net the other day and noticed he didn't have a website.

Maybe point out that there are a lot of other businesses around here that don't have websites and help him to realize what an edge he'd be gaining by having one.

Then leave the owner with a business card or two. I guess that would be a couple of ideas I would think might spark some interest.
