There are many web designers and developers who have used Westciv's self paced online courses over the years to teach themselves HTML and CSS. John Allsopp and Maxine Sherrin have put a lot of work into these courses, which are a good introduction to standards based web development.
The courses, which are available for free for a limited time (one week for each part), haven't been updated in a while, but now they are back. First out is a 12 week course called CSS Level 1 (which actually includes CSS 2.1 – the name, as I understand it, does not reflect the level/version of CSS used in the course).
All courses have been edited to better match how people work today, as opposed to several years ago when the courses were last run. I looked through my archives and found that I blogged about this course in December 2003. A lot has happened since then, so it's good to see the courses refreshed and re-run.
These courses may not contain a whole lot of news to many of my regular readers, but for those of you who are just getting started with Web standards I recommend taking the chance to follow along for free. Likewise if you have a co-worker who needs to catch up a bit on standards based development, let them know about this.
Check out CSS Level 1, Week 1, and if you like it make sure you don't miss the coming weekly sections.Visit site to read or post comments…Add 456 Berea Street to your Technorati favorites.Posted in CSS, Web Standards.
