Tribute to Trailblazer of Modern Art: Tilt-shifted Van Gogh

The time is flowing quickly, but really valuable things are never forgotten. And the more value a thing has, the more it interacts with people of forthcoming epoch. Especially it’s fair regarding art nowadays, which passes through postmodernist stage. A considerable feature of postmodernism is using of finished form in order to create new concepts.

Everyone knows about Vincent van Gogh, a genial and insane painter. His works became an impetus in the art bringing fresh approach to painting process. No wonder, van Gogh is called the trailblazer of modern art.

Vincent van Gogh isn’t ignored by contemporaries. I met interesting examples of his paintings redesigned with the help of tilt-shift. This method became popular on the web in recent years. The idea is to use special lens to make a real-world illustration look like a miniature models (examples ). The effects can be simulated in Photoshop by adjusting contrast, color saturation and depth of focus.

So, once an illustrator Serena Malyon, being a third-year student of Alberta College of Art & Design decided to make a split: she improved some van Gogh’s paintings with tilt-shift effects. The result of this act is a thing I’d like to present below.

Serena’s remakes gives an opportunity to see well-known pictures from the other point of view and reveal something more in the art of past times. She stated in her interview that an idea to develop panted masterpieces came from her father John Malyon, so we can thank them both for giving us such an aesthetically pleasant tribute to Vincent van Gogh.

Do you like the concept? I’ll be waiting for your response in the comments.
